THE PROGRAMME

AWAKENINGS
In 1918 a mysterious sleeping-sickness epidemic swept across the world leaving hundreds of survivors in an unexplained paralysis. This moving new work is inspired by the powerful true stories of a group of very individual patients, catapulted temporarily but dramatically from their long slumber into their own emotionally-charged awakenings. A theatrical rollercoaster of emotions, Awakenings is inspired by Dr Oliver Sacks’ book of the same name, made famous by the 1990 Hollywood film. Featuring a specially-commissioned score, both passionate and lyrical, the Rambert dancers and orchestra draw you into this dramatic and spine-tingling new work. Choreography Aletta Collins
Music Tobias Picker
Design Miriam Buether
Lighting design Yaron Abulafia
Running time: approx 25 mins

THE ART OF TOUCH
Siobhan Davies returns to Rambert with a revival of her Olivier Award-winning work The Art of Touch. The speed and wit of Domenico Scarlatti’s sonatas are the triggers for the irascibly fast footwork that propels the dancers across the stage, scooping the air as they go.
Choreography Siobhan Davies
Music Matteo Fargion, Domenico Scarlatti
Set design David Buckland
Costume design Antony McDonald
Lighting design Ian Beswick
Running time: approx 25 mins

CARDOON CLUB (UK première at Wycombe Swan)
Henrietta Horn’s simple ingredients mix together to create a sparkling revue: light-hearted, fresh and tinged with melancholia. This witty restaging of a 2004 work by the German choreographer is filled with bizarre silhouettes and stranded angels: part fun fair, part star gala, with a dash of Rio thrown in.
Choreography Henrietta Horn
Music Benjamin Pope
Design Michael Howells
Lighting design Reinhart Hubert

UK première at Wycombe Swan, High Wycombe, 6 October 2010
Running time: approx 25 mins

NB Running order is not confirmed.
