What's on
Richard Alston Dance Company
Music is at the heart of Richard Alston’s dance making, and the Company’s 2010 programme features music full of glorious contrasts.
Alston’s delicate LIGHT FLOODING INTO DARKENED ROOMS is inspired by Vermeer’s iconic portrait Girl With A Pearl Earring and lute music by the 17th century master Denis Gaultier.
“A lovely portrait of lovers’ intimacy which explores the turbulent privacy of the world of Vermeer paintings” Daily Telegraph
In contrast, Alston’s newest piece, EVEN MORE, is performed to Russian composer Prokofiev’s passionate and percussive Sonata No.6 for piano. And in OVERDRIVE, Alston takes up the pulsating rhythm of modern Californian composer Terry Riley’s music and runs with it to the wire.
“Utterly exhilarating” Sunday Times
